Question:
I am a 16 year old male and I am addicted to pornography. I have been a frequent user of pornography for the last two or three years but I want to stop! I have tried to stop a few times but I just can't. This is something I really need help with, as I really want to find a way to stop this addiction.
Response:
Hi, being a teenager is a time where a lot of things are changing. The teens is a time of becoming sexual aware starting to notice people around you and feeling attraction towards boys or girls. It can also be a confusing time, particularly when it comes to sexual ethics that may be opposing the porn sexualised culture. It is a good start in acknowledging that you have a problem and that you want to fix this.
There are a lot of traps with porn, it is easily available, cost no money and is anonymous. So I can understand when a young person may get themselves into trouble with using porn. The first step is getting help; this could be from a GP, psychologist, sex therapist, school counsellor, Mum or Dad or religious leader. It is important to be honest about how difficult it has been for you to stop looking at porn.
There is help out there and with this help you can start feeling good about yourself. If you have found that viewing porn has resulted in you having difficulty forming a relationship, than this would also be a good thing to discuss with someone to help with you build a relationship.
