"Some procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic where you are awake, but if you are anxious you may prefer a general anaesthetic where the procedure can be done while you are asleep."

Question:

Is it safe to have a cholesterol bump removed from my eyelid? I am scheduled in with a plastic surgeon in May to cut it off. It is so near my eye I am a bit scared.

Answer:

Plastic surgeons are experienced with operating near the eye and the answer is to provide the conditions you are comfortable with. Some procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic where you are awake, but if you are anxious you may prefer a general anaesthetic where the procedure can be done while you are asleep. Discussion with the surgeon is the key to ensure you are comfortable and confident with the way in which the procedure will be performed.
