Eat your way to luscious locks

It takes more than a flock of top hair coiffeurs, high-tech products and gismos to achieve glossy hair. While you may prefer to spend hours manipulating your mane in the mirror, what you really need to do is step out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. ‘Get glossy’ shopping list

Pulses
Eating beans and pulses, such as lentils and kidney beans, is a vital part of a healthy hair diet. The protein encourages hair growth and the iron, zinc and biotin make hair strong and resilient. Aim for at least three cups of pulses per week.

Salmon
Packed with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 and iron, this fish offers hair and scalp all the nutrients it needs to be healthy. If you don't eat fish, opt for two generous tablespoons of flax seed oil in your diet.

Green veg
Vegetables rich in chlorophyll, such as spinach and broccoli, are also a great source of vitamins A and C. These vitamins help your body produce natural oils that keep your hair conditioned and shiny.

Carrots
Not only good for vision, this veg's vitamin A content also keeps your scalp healthy and well conditioned. Carrot sticks are a wise snack choice and a great salad topping when grated.
