Question:
My daughter is 19 and suffered from chronic tonsillitis when little. When she was four years old, after many years of antibiotics and hospital stays and high fevers, she stopped growing or thriving so her specialist paediatrician and surgeon decide to take out her adenoids and tonsils.
This year she had residual tonsil tissue removed after she started to experience the same familiar symptoms. Now after her tonsils are gone her nose is continually blocked and constantly full of mucus leading to sinus infections.
I would really like some advice. Her diet is relatively healthy for a 19-year-old going to parties, work and uni but her immune system is shocking. This year she has had swine flu, whooping cough, pneumonia, constant colds and flu. She has also just started on the pill. Her stressed mum and dad would appreciate some advice.
Answer:
Her immunity could certainly do with some building up. A combination of vitamins A, C, E and Zinc are needed and you could also get some tablets from a health food shop containing echinacea and andrographis. These are wonderful for boosting immunity. Good food and enough sleep are important too. I would add in a good-quality B complex as well to help her cope with the stresses of life.
