Itchy scaly scalp

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Question:
I gave birth to my second child six months ago and am still breastfeeding. For the past four months I have had itchy patches on my scalp which dry out and get scaly. Is this a nutritional problem and/or can I treat it with something naturally?

Answer:
Sometimes the stress and sleeplessness associated with caring for a new baby can bring on an outbreak of psoriasis. This has symptoms such as you describe. Taking fish oil will usually clear it up, but you need to take it for about three months. You should see an improvement in about two weeks. Get a good brand and take 8000mg per day.
