Metal taste on tongue

Wednesday, June 2, 2010
"I would suggest you ask at a health food store for a recommendation to a good-quality supplement for B12."

Question:

I'm definitely not pregnant but have that metal taste that reminds me of early pregnancy. Is it acid levels or something else and what can I do to get rid of it?

Answer:

There are two deficiencies that cause a metal taste in the mouth: zinc and B12 deficiencies. You can eat a mountain of oysters every day to get your zinc status up, but I think it would be easier and less expensive to take a supplement. Take 50mg per day of elemental zinc. Some people find taking zinc supplements in the morning makes them feel nauseous, so it is a good idea to take them after dinner.

I would suggest you ask at a health food store for a recommendation to a good-quality supplement for B12. B12 is also available through your doctor in the form of an injection.
