Mindless eating
I'd been overweight from the age of 16 — my adolescence and early adulthood was plagued with a negative body image. My biggest problems were emotional and boredom eating. Without realising it, I would eat through the whole pantry while watching TV!

Fit but still fat
At one stage I joined a gym to lose weight but it didn't have the desired effect. I definitely became fit, although my eating habits didn't change so I remained fat.

Tell it like it is
My wake-up call came from my Doctor telling me I was obese. It was a blunt statement that shocked me and opened my eyes. Thankfully, my doctor went a step further and recommended Weight Watchers as a successful programme. I was at breaking point, so I thought 'Why not?'.

A new perspective
The major changes I made were all about my eating habits – what, when and how much. The reason I never lost weight in the past was because my attitude stank. I would eat what and whenever I felt like it, without thinking.

Through Weight Watchers I was able to turn my thought patterns around. Now I eat the correct portions and ensure I eat enough protein, fruit and veg each day. Overeating just isn't worth it.

The key ingredients
Thanks to persistence, determination and a motivating Leader, I lost over 20 kilos and finally found some self-compassion. I'm confident in the way I look and feel. I still like to reward myself for maintaining my weight loss, especially with new clothes. Keeping my weight stable and healthy means there's a whole other world of shopping out there for me to explore!
